 Do I need a permit for a recreational fire?

You do not need a permit for a recreational fire, however, the burning of brush and leaves is prohibited in the Village of Hinckley.

  How do I pay for a permit?

Permit fees can be paid to the Village of Hinckley in the form of cash or check. We do not currently accept electronic payment for permit fees. All checks may be made payable to the "Village of Hinckley".

 Is the burining of leaves permitted within village limits?

The burning of leaves within the corporate limits of the Village of Hinckley is strictly prohibited as detailed in Village of Hinckley village code Chapter 26. Article I. Sec. 26-6. 

"Penalty for violations. Fire started in violation of this section may be extinguished on order of the police department of the village and a further penalty for the violation of any provision of this section shall be as follows: Upon conviction in a court of competent jurisdiction, the person violating this section or any part thereof may be fined not less than $100.00, nor more than $500.00 for each such violation."

  What are the Village Hall office hours?

Monday - Friday: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm (Closed 12:30 pm - 1:00 pm)

  What is the recycling pick up schedule?

Refuse and recycling will be picked up every Monday, with the exception of the following Holidays:
  • New Year's Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Labor Day
  • Fourth of July
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

 What is the Brush Pickup Policy in Hinckley?

Brush pickup will take place on the first Monday of the month, starting at the beginning of April and finishing the first Monday of October.  For Holidays that fall on Mondays, brush will be collected the following Tuesday.  Brush will be collected under the following guidelines:
  • All branches should be stacked near the curb or edge of the street, with the cut ends facing one direction, if possible.
  • Branches must NOT be bundled.  Twine, wire, string, or other binding material will wrap around the chipping machine and damage it.  Brush must NOT be placed in cans, barrels, or boxes.
  • Stumps, root balls, or root systems will not be collected.  They should be removed and disposed of separately.
  • Limbs & branches exceeding 6" in diameter will not be collected.
  • Foreign material including construction debris, fence posts, lumber, wire, grass/grass clippings will NOT be collected.
This programs in intended for the disposal of only limbs and branches removed by the property owner for normal maintenance and upkeep, NOT for lot cleaning or the removal of trees and shrubs.  The Village will not pickup material produced under these conditions, or produced by a contractor.

  What type of work requires a permit?

Applications for permits may be picked up at the Village Hall. A plat of survey & and set of project plans must be submitted with complete applications.

  • Sheds
  • Decks
  • Handicap Ramps
  • Pools
  • Fences
  • Electrical Upgrades
  • Plumbing Work

 Who do I contact to rent a park shelter?

 The registration process is handled through the Hinckley Village Hall. Stop by the Village Hall to reserve a date for your event at Pioneer Park. 
Payment of the rental fee is required within 7 days of reserving a date. A $200 security deposit is required before the date of rental in the form of a check. This check will not be cashed unless a village employee observes damage to the property or shelter. A waiver will be filed at the village hall during the rental process.

 Who do I contact to ask questions about water quality?

If you have questions or concerns regarding water provided by the Village of Hinckley call the water department at (815) 286-7085. Your phone call may not be answered initially, but this phone is checked multiple times a day. If you wish to leave a message, please include the following information: Name, address, daytime phone #, your question or concern.
